Comment #28 on issue 1562 by [email protected]: Have trigsimp apply factor
and Poly.cancel() to sin's and cos's
http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=1562
both PR 1258 and 1690 are in.
dsolve(f(x).diff(x, 5) + 2*f(x).diff(x, 3) + f(x).diff(x) - 1,
f(x), 'nth_linear_constant_coeff_variation_of_parameters')
f(x) == C1 + x*((sin(x)**2 - 1)*cos(x)**2/2 + cos(x)**4/2 + 1) + (C2 + C3*x
- sin(x)**3/2)*cos(x) + (C4 + C5*x - cos(x)**3/2 + cos(x)/2)*sin(x)
Letting eq be the expression from the OP gives
trigsimp(eq)
-4
(I'm not sure what was wrong in comment #26.)
