The `z=m.row_join(eye(9)).rref()[0][0,11]` as described above took over 3.5 minutes (that's when I quit waiting) to get a result for `cancel(z)` whereas `signsimp(z)` returns nan almost immediately. So although cancel is good, simpler things should be done first.
