No, exact same tracebacks when importing sympy from within Jython. I also can verify that it does import in Jython 2.5 (with Basic.__slots__ removed). I don't have the heart to try bisecting the Jython source tree (for one thing, it is in hg, which I barely know how to use, and for another, starting Jython and importing sympy in it is soo slooow).
