I can't reproduce this. Do you need to delete your pyc files?
solve(x**3 + x**2*y - 2*x - 3)
[{y: -x + 2/x + 3/x**2}]
solve(x**3 + x**2*y - 2*x - 3,x)
[-y/3 + (-y**2/9.... 2*y/3 - 3)**2/4) - 3/2)**(1/3)]Regardless, you generated an error but it looks like it should maybe be reported at mpmath.
