the hyper_as_trig function in fu.py (part of PR 1737) allows rewriting of hyperbolics to trigonometric functions so rather than duplicating code, a routine can do the transform, expand, transform back:

t, f = hyper_as_trig(cosh(x + y))
f(t.expand(trig=True))
sinh(x)*sinh(y) + cosh(x)*cosh(y)
