New issue 3694 by [email protected]: Better Simplification of Gammas
http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=3694
Expressions with Gamma functions are often not simplified as much as they
should be.
Here is an example from sympy.stats
In [1]: from sympy.stats import *
In [2]: k = Symbol("k", positive=True)
In [3]: theta = Symbol("theta", positive=True)
In [4]: X = Gamma("x", k, theta)
In [5]: simplify(variance(X))
Out[5]:
2 ⎛ 2⎞
θ ⋅⎝Γ(k)⋅Γ(k + 2) - Γ(k + 1) ⎠
──────────────────────────────
2
Γ(k)
The actual answer to this is theta**2*k. So all of the gammas here should
disappear into a single symbol.
