Haven't figured it out but to give a simpler failing expression:
A is noncommutative
trigsimp(-sin(th)**2*A - sin(2*th)*A/2)
sqrt(2)*cos(2*th + pi/4)*A - A
(A should be A/2)
a is commutative (result is ok)
trigsimp(-a*sin(th)**2 - a*sin(2*th)/2).expand()
sqrt(2)*a*cos(2*th + pi/4)/2 - a/2
