I know that, but if 1 + x = O(x) and 1 - x = O(x), then couldn't O(x) + O(x) mean (1 + x) + (1 - x) = 1 != O(x) (at 0 or oo, I forget which one, but that's why I also included 1/x)? In other words, I'm not believing you when you say that it's a vector space.

Am I maybe confusing O(x) and o(x)?
