There is a problem with minus sign in the expression.
For example:
from sympy.abc import x,y
x.as_coefficient(-x) #here it works as it expected
-1
b = sympify(5*x*y**2)
b.as_coefficient(-x) #also it's ok
-5*y**2
b.as_coefficient(-x*y) #here it fails to find -5*y
b.as_coefficient(x*y) #again it's ok
5*y
