New issue 4092 by [email protected]: simplify misses a simplification!
http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=4092

from sympy import *

x=Symbol('x')
a=Symbol('a')

simplify(log((a**2*x - a**2 - a*x + 2*a - 1)/(a*(a - 1))))

returns the expression without simplification.

If we focus on the argument of the logarithm

simplify((x*a**2-a**2-a*x+2*a-1)/(a-1))

we get

x - 1 + 1/a

Therefore the simplified original expression should be

log(x - 1 + 1/a)
