Currently I (sqrt(-1)) pretty prints as ⅈ, which is DOUBLE-STRUCK ITALIC SMALL I. A perhaps more mathematical symbol would be 𝒾 (MATHEMATICAL SCRIPT SMALL I) or 𝓲 (MATHEMATICAL BOLD SCRIPT SMALL I).

What do you think? Here's a sampling:
