Is there a specific thread of ideas being implemented in this branch or
is it just a large set of fixes? I.e. should one just look at each
commit in isolation or is there a bigger picture to keep in mind?
[Now that my gruntz branch is in I want to return the favour and do some
reviewing. :-) ]
