I haven't looked at your code but I can tell you handling branch cuts
computationally can be a subtle problem. I would try to see if Frederich
(the author of mpmath) is around and ask him. I think he's thought about
these things a lot.
Thanks for this suggestion. He is on this list (I believe), so maybe he
has something to say.
