Speaking of GSOC project patches, the patch https://github.com/saptman/sympy/commit/8f60d7862bbf359e0ee1e69102264e870cb78570 from last summer implements a solver for systems of 1st order ODEs. If it has not been included already, I am afraid I am at fault. It looks like I promised last year to look at it and forgot. I don't know git that well.
