Hi, Thanks for introducing yourself and welcome to sympy. There was a bit of discussion in a number of recent threads about GSOC already so you can check them. Concerning the step-by-step evaluation project, one of the suggested approaches was to use the new "rewrite rules and strategies" module. Check out the blog posts on planet.sympy.org for blog post on the subject and also check the old pull request that deal with it. Don't worry about git, it is hard for everybody in the beginning. Check out the "development workflow" page on our wiki and do not shy from asking questions.
