Hi, I've playing around with implementing a different caching strategy: "user-level" functions within which the cache is enabled and after which the cache is cleared. I've opened a PR for the work in progress here: https://github.com/sympy/sympy/pull/2448
I'm not sure if it's the best approach to a different caching strategy, but feel free to take a look and give some input/feedback.
