is why about 40% of PCs are already infected with some kind of malware I

In Europe, that is. In China, the rate is more like 80%. ("Virtually
every PC there" was installed with Windows XP and never updated. "Eat
shit, people, billions of flies can't be wrong!")
(Percentages from the last report on the issue that I read. They might
be exaggerated, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were accurate -
people generally underestimate the threat level, many never notice that
they have been hacked and attribute the accumulating instabilities to
"eh, that's just Windows".)
