Important advice: Don't try to second-guess the needs of other people, get your needs covered well. Making code more general is a lot of additional work (Fred Brooks assumes a factor of 3), and if you don't guess right, that additional work will be wasted. Unless, of course, you already have concrete other uses in mind. I'd still be rather cautious about trying to be general - you'll be learning lessons in your first, non-general prototype, that's usually enough work.
