I feel like these issues are related to MathJax and Jupyter interaction. We simply print the (hopefully) correct LaTeX code. If I paste the LaTeX from your example here, for example:
http://arachnoid.com/latex/ It renders fine. This is probably a Jupyter issue. Maybe try reporting in there.
