Hi Imran,

Competitive coding and Software Development are two different things. But
don't worry even if you are new you can learn things easily.

First of all i would suggest you to go through these following links:

   - Introduction to Contributing
   <https://github.com/sympy/sympy/wiki/introduction-to-contributing>
   - Development workflow
   <https://github.com/sympy/sympy/wiki/Development-workflow>

Once you are done with these then you can look into :

   - Easy to fix Bugs

<https://github.com/sympy/sympy/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3A%22Easy+to+Fix%22>
(This
   way you can get better understanding of the Sympy codebase)

Once you are okay with the development workflow and sympy codebase, you can
start looking into projects and choose among them:

   - Project lists
   <https://github.com/sympy/sympy/wiki/GSoC-2017-Ideas#singularity-functions>

And level of skills required would vary from projects to projects. So, once
you find a project that interests you, you can start working on the skills
required.

You can ask any doubt at gitter or maling list.
