I have been using sympy and mostly a sub library of it for maybe four years, and I only made one very small pull request – so I am 99% a user only. My experience, following the discussions, is that it is unlikely that an expert will tell you which problem you should tackle. (…and how should they? They do not know your interest or capability) If you go to: https://github.com/sympy/sympy/issues you will find plenty of open issues to be solved.
