You asked for an advice and I gave one. Since the software that sent the message is broken to the point of omitting the filename and the attached parts are actually gibberish this sounds like an ok solution to me. Correct me if I'm wrong but this has nothing to do with synapse it's up to you to choose the implementation when faced with this situations.
