if i understood u correctly
the timeout property is obsolete? coz there were times
the timeout did happen.

so the better (but still ugly) solution is to create a timeout timer
myself that will kill the connection ?

Connection tiomeout EXIST, but is hardcoded inside your operating
system network stack.
