Thanks Theo. I revisited some aspects of my code, of which some relies on 
the correct format of the date. I did not realise that the format of the 
date() is different between linux and windows. I had wrongly thought that 
the length of some of the strings I was processing were causing a problem 
and that is why I was trying CriticalSections.
