What I'll be looking for are the standard formatting capabilities you get in OE etc. BTW its MIME you need to look at not UUEncode. In general terms UUEncode is used for newsgroups to encode and add attachments and mime is used for encoding of email messages. Lukas has good stuff for both in Synapse.
