Fixed with the maven 2 ecliper plugin
did mvn eclipse:eclipse
If M2 fails to find the eclipse plugin, comment *all* repositories from the
main pom.xml and try it again.. I do not know the reasons for this failure..
but the above workaround seems to download the plugin from repo1.maven.org..
although if we specify that repo it doesnt find it :(
Now import the project into eclipse 3.2.0
