However, there is a good reason to run Synapse standalone! The reason we have focussed on the standalone runtime is to support the non-blocking IO. Because a servlet engine is naturally threaded and blocks until completed, the number of connections you can handle is limited by the number of threads. The NIO channel that we have developed can support 000s of concurrent connections based on a limited number of threads.
