Yes we are planning a new release early next year. The main features we have
been working on are:

1) full JTA transactionality (as an option)
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SYNAPSE-181
2) improvements to clustering
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SYNAPSE-180
3) Ability to cleanly switch off Synapse during updates
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SYNAPSE-178

I've also been working on integration with Esper (esper.codehaus.org) and
I've been looking at improving the ability to write new transports.
The other things on my list are native MQSeries and QPid support. I'd like
to see how to integrate Rajith's QPid/Synapse code as well (he did an
embedding of Synapse on top of QPid).

Typically we are very driven by user requirements, so if there are other
things you think would make good additions let us know. We are also just
moving to become an Apache Top Level Project (e.g. synapse.apache.org),
moving out of being a subproject of ws.apache.org.
