Firefox for Android implements Sync using the Android Sync system. This runs in a background process, even when Firefox itself is not running.

Is there any desire to start doing that for Firefox Desktop or FirefoxOS? I guess this is more than one question though:

* Should we use a separate process?
* Should we allow that process to run when Firefox is not?

Maybe we deem both of these out of scope for the initial implementation, but are there choices we can make now that would make it easier to evolve in the separate process direction later?

I think we're going to eventually want an always on service for Firefox. I don't think we need that now.
