The answer to that somewhat depends on our implementation choices are in the short term, and how much they dictate engineering direction. If we shipped a Sync-based solution, it would involve some surgery and broken assumptions to treat the server as anything other than a dumb whiteboard, and difficulty increases with nuance! As you know, I've been talking through a path that would get us from hither to thon; that would buy us the opportunity to easily change the behavior.
