You are great! I would recommend, and ask you to please use, the pending status on a bug. Say something like "is this still relevant?" whilst putting it on pending. This will give a fortnight for someone to reply to keep the item still open. Although this sounds a little brutal, I think it's good for cleaning up old items, or where the bug submitters are MIA and are are therefore unhelpful.
