I think it makes sense for the GTK client.
As to the default value: I'm already setting a temporary config before
syncing so I can add this setting temporarily as well. This would of
course mean users of the UI could not disable the setting even via
command line...
So I guess I'm voting enable by default, but it's not a strong opinion.
