Perfectly. There was just a missing component, as warned about in the web page.
Otherwise not even the slightest fuzz.

The config file (I started from a funambol template) already contains 
enableWBXML=0.

I understand. I'll try a bit harder and I'll send an archive. I'll scrub it to 
remove passwd/etc.

Oh, and if it can help I can create an account on my egw server for you to try. 
Sadly there's no debug info (that I know of) server-side.
