Right. EBOOK_LIBS in your config.status should contain it.

What does "pkg-config --libs libebook-1.2" on you system produce?

With an older, self-compiled Evolution I get:

-pthread -L/usr/local/evolution-2.30-2010-09/lib -lebook-1.2
-ledataserver-1.2 -ldbus-glib-1 -lxml2 -lgconf-2 -lsoup-2.4 -lgio-2.0
-lgmodule-2.0 -ldbus-1 -lpthread -lgobject-2.0 -lgthread-2.0 -lrt
-lglib-2.0
