That sounds like a problem that occurred in Debian and Ubuntu recently:
syncevo-dbus-server as compiled by those distros no longer responds to
D-Bus requests, like the one from the UI.

Did you by any chance update your Linux installation?

The SyncEvolution binaries from syncevolution.org still worked on
another affected system; please try those.
