So you do a two-way incremental sync between phone with Synthesis SyncML
PRO (client) and SyncEvolution (server)? The birthday entries were
originally created on the phone, then sent to SyncEvolution, then back
again?

Something doesn't compute here. If the birthday events were originally
created by the phone, SyncEvolution should never send them back...
except perhaps after a slow sync.

The current state sounds like SyncEvolution sends the birthday events,
the phone stores them, but then doesn't acknowledge that they were
stored, causing SyncEvolution to resend in perpetuity.

Can you send me a syncevolution-log.html file of a sync that duplicates
entries to patrick.ohly at gmx.de? That'll help to clarify what the
current situation is.

It probably won't help to find out how we got there; that will be the
next step.
