I can't deny I like the idea. But I lack the knowledge and the
expertise.

Also, I don't have a PC running all the time. I do have a NAS
(Synology), where I can add preconfigured packages. And since it's
basically a Linux box, I could also Telnet into it, though it frightens
me a bit. But I'm not sure it would be possible to turn it into a SyncML
server. Moreover--don't know if it matters--I don't have a fixed IP, and
I use a DDNS server to access it remotely. 

That makes a lot of "ifs"...
