Well, I think I solved it that way: since the syncing attempt just after the slow sync kept failing, I performed two successive slow syncs. The second one ran fine, with 0 change reported. After that, the normal sync took place flawlessly. I have 2 hypotheses: 1) I had a power outage, so this PC was shut down incorrectly once; 2) Upon another shutdown, I saw the "Memotoo syncing" popup notification appear while the PC was in the process of shutting itself down, and the sync could not complete. Both happened no longer that 1 or 2 days before I noticed the problem, so I'm bound to suspect one of these two possible causes. Thank you for your advice.
