I've wasted an afternoon trying to suss out this syndic8 stuff and I'm
out of patience. I found the help files and established that I need the
longtitude and latitude of my home city. Okay, I found those at the
link supplied. I don't know why it should be necessary, but okay. Then
I had to get listed on the ODP Project. Impossible. It doesn't have the
categories I need and refuses to let me submit a website until I've
found a suitable sub-category. It'll let me be an editor, but I don't
have the time. I'm too busy running my websites and working. Also the
ODP wants to grab the copyright of anything you add to it. I don't like
the sound of that. Finally I had to locate myself on some hopeless map
of the world that wouldn't do anything I wanted it to. What rubbish!

Back to my original question: Why does it have to be so complicated?
What I was looking for was something like a free webcounter: download a
few lines of HTML that link my website to the providing website, enable
it to click up a visit and put a small graphic on my homepage. In this
case it would need to read and syndicate my headline. If it can be made
that simple, syndic8 will be a runaway success.

I've started an arts news blog and it's just the sort of site that
needs syndication, so that anyone interested in the arts can find the
headline and pay a quick visit to read a short news item. ODP hasn't
even got an Arts News category, and the BBC has recently dropped its
own Arts News Index. So there is an obvious need for arts news blogs.
I've found one good one, but it could stand some competition.

If there is a valid reason for all the apparently unnecessary
complications, I would be interested to read it.
