Summary: Text tool crashes.

Initial Comment:
When you select the text tool, the system crashes.
I just installed the last version, but that didn't help.

Message:
I have installed Synfig on my portable with WIndows XP on it. It also
crashed. Then I made a new folder and copied only the font "Arial.ttf" into
that folder. In the texttool I entered as font the complete path of this
font. That worked. However, I then saved the document and opened it again
on my Windows 7 system and it crashed immediately.
I hope that this information can help to find the origin of this nasty
problem.

In the case of the real Windows 7, you can't wait. Immediately the
operating system takes over and your get a dialog box telling you that a
problem occurred and that Windows is searching for a solution. You can
press "cancel", which results in the immediate abortion of the program or
you can do nothing, which has the same result, it just takes a little
longer.

I now uninstalled completely synfig, went to the registry editor and
removed all entries containing "*synfig*". I reinstalled, but it didn't
help.

I checked forum mentioned below, tried some of the tips, (the neither have
a final solution) but it did,'t help neither.

Message:
Fontconfig does some initialization the first time that it is called (i.e.
the first time you try and use a text layer)- setting up a cache among
other things.
I've seen this issue (or something like it) -
http://synfig.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1026
I have no idea what's causing it or how to troubleshoot it though. Any
fontconfig experts out there?

"At that moment the application hangs."
When I did the test on the virtual machine it also hanged but if you wait
it would recover and then will work normally. Second time you insert text
will work faster.
If it crash, it is one problem behind.

Other files work.I had already made my own files, It's really a great
application!
I tired to insert text into "eye.sifz". When I click on the tool, I get
the dialogbox where you can choose the options. (not many options. only
"sans serif" and the with and height are set to 0. I change them to 10.
Then I click somewhere on the drawing to enter text. I get the sialogbox to
enter text. I enter "42" and press "ok". At that moment the application
hangs.

2) Yes I'm using a non-English system. My system language is "Dutch".
During installation, I didn't change anything to the settings of the setup
program.

3) Single threading is checked.

Please confirm that the application is working fine with other files. Try
to open eye.sifz or candy.sifz. Then if they work, repeat the trial of
insert a text layer to see the message console or the response.
I don't have much experience with windows issues and I just can think on
those root causes:
1) Mismatch on the libraries. I guess it is solved since you cleaned up
the older installations.
2) No path to fonts in your system. Do you use a non English system
language on your widnows 7? (i.e. german, or spanish?) Did you leave the
default installation folder or did you customized it?
3) A problem of multithreading still happening because you didn't deleted
completely the synfig/settings file. To be sure to avoid multiple thread
rendering please go to Toolbox->Setup->Misc tab and be sure you check the
"Use single thread" is checked.
I don't have more ideas on mind.

Message:
Dear Genete,
Thank you for your reaction.
I deinstalled all versions of Synfig. And indeed on the level of the
installation tool of Windows, I saw an old version.
I reinstalled, but the error still persists. To be clear, when I try to
open the file "about_dialog" the program still crashes. However, on the
error message mentioned below doesn't appear anymore on the console. All
that appears on the console is:
"Synfig studio -- starting up application...
sunfig(7016) [22:44:09] info: Loading modules from
../etc/synfig_modules.cfg"
Then I get a new "windows 7" window "the application stopped working".
That's it.

Error: size of layer mismatch (app: 232, lib:256)
This makes me think that there were a previous Synfig installation that
was not correctly removed. Please reinstall everything from scratch,
removing any rest of previous installations and try again.
I've checked the proper functionality of the Text Tool and Text Layer in a
Windows 7 on a virtual machine and fresh installation of Synfig Studio
0.62.02

Thank you for the quick response. Here are my responses:
OS: Windows 7
System locale value: I don't know what this is.
I tried to open the example "about_dialog.sifz" (I suppose it also has
texts) and it also crashes.
Error: size of layer mismatch (app: 232, lib:256)
