Well, it's good practice to keep copies of anything you change before
you touch it.

If you're running Solaris 10 or SXCE, you should find a copy of the original at

/var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/save/pspool/SUNWcsr/reloc/etc/profile

(copies of these files are kept here in an unmodified from so that a zone
gets unmangled versions; it's also a good place to go to if you want to go
back to unmodified files or see what changes might have been made).
