Hi,
We have inherited some Solaris 2.6 servers which use rsh to trigger some commands on Tru64 (V4.0F) servers. To cut a long story short a Firewall now sits inbetween the Solaris and Tru64 servers.
Ports 513 and 514 have been opened up, rsh'ing between the boxes works but when we try to 'rsh <server> df' a message protocol failure in circuit setup appears. Having read the rshd man pages and googled it seems in a nutshell that rsh opens up a redirect port to stderr which always seems to be 1023 for some reason but could be anything from 512 to 1023. Opening up all these ports would cause Networks to have palpertations so we obviously want to trim down the ports to be opened up on the firewall.
Hopefully someone will have come across this before but I have been looking at redirecting stderr (which as yet doesnt seem to work), trying to stop the stderr redirection at the rsh source but as yet have not found a suitable resolution.
Any assistance would be gratefull received.
Thanks...
PS: Please don't suggest ssh as this has been dismissed, very long story...
