I'm looking at cleaning up some legacy bits of software .... in an
attempt to clean up some of the remote corners of Solaris and reduce the
amount of baggage we carry.
I've hit a dependent though, that I can't easily resolve without
breaking things. "sag".
"sag" is the utility that processes "sar" data and makes graphs in a Tek
4014 mode xterm. (You can also use it with
/usr/lib/lp/postscript/posttek). The results are functional, although
pretty darned ugly IMO. And the way the tool generates these graphs is
... unmaintainable.
Anyway, one idea is to simply EOF sag.
There are lots of other options. One of the best free ones I've found
is a Java based application called "kSar" ...
http://ksar.atomique.net/index.html
One could argue that this tool might be useful enough to be
"integrated", although IMO there are still some rough edges that should
be polished before I'd consider it integration-ready. That said, this
tool is pretty darn good, and fantastically better than crummy old sag.
So, would you miss sag? Please let me know if you would! Because in
the absence of feedback I'll probably start the process to remove it.
And I'm not planning on integrating kSar myself, although if someone
else wants to...
Thanks. (Make sure you respond to me... I'm not subscribed to this list.)
