If its not a top-level read access permission problem, then I wonder what OS the client is running. If it is a client running NFSv3, then those clients don't traverse nested mount points and you would need to
mount with the NFSv4 option.

Thanks for the reply... Yes I am aware that group1 was the only group given permission to acces the share. I have added all users to group1 and also added user1 to group2. You can see this in the snippet of my /etc/group file in my original post.

group1::101:user1,user2,user3
group2::102:user1
group3::103:user2,user3
