Hi, I have been reading the Universal Logger Messages draft document of 31 May 1999 and I've noticed that the severity of log alarms is conflated with the category of the log messages. In ISO 10165-2 (Definition of Management Information) they separate the type of the notification (by defining a Managed Object of the type) from the "PerceivedSeverity" (an attribute of alarms). I think that it is appropriate for such a separation to be made in the ULM. We could then define two fields: CAT for the category or type of the log record (mandatory) SEV (or whatever) for the severity of an alarm log record (conditionally present depending on the category) What do others think of this separation? Am I unnecessarily complicating things? On a different subject, has any progress been made towards defining a logging API? Can anyone point me at any efforts being made in this direction?
