John - My only comment on your notes of 10/16 on sequence numbering is that the procedure requires that the log source device and the log host must synchronize at each device reboot, and that the host will always observe a reboot. (I'm also not too keen on examination of a high-order bit of a two-word counter to discriminate sequenced mode. And sorting in analysis requires substantial storage. But these are details.) I will try to find time this weekend to make the description of procedures more precise, and add your sequence numbering discussion to the draft. I would welcome your review and co-authorship if you are interested. If anyone is also interested in co-authoring to provide some C code (both originating and receiving sides) for the new procedure, which can be added to the draft,that would be very helpful.
