Hi all, I have this need, and I dont know if syslog-sec can/will cover this, but here goes.... How about defining a "I am alive" message so a "device" or "application" can tell the "data-collector" it is still runnning at a given interval (ex. once every 15 min), that way the datacollector could know if someting is wrong (might be network congestions, or simply that the device/application is down) Here is what I picture.... <PRI>Timestamp Hostname @#alive interval where @#alive is a "new" cookie and interval specifies how many secs before a new alive message is send out....
