I am involved in the development of a product to automatically read syslog
files on some UNIX systems, and automaticaly display alerts and sent events
when some patterns are met in these files (i define some filters).
I want to automaticaly recognize the origin of the messages, based on the
content of the line, by identifying keywords within one line.
1. It seems that no standard exists for the format of the syslog lines after
date and hour header.
Do you agree with this ?
2. What's the main market of syslog mecanism ? CISCO ? Others ?
Do you have information about that, or may you give me some useful URLs
?
