>And I'll bet that Basilisk II has reduced the speed of your G4 to a PB100. ;) I'm surprised with how snappy it is. You can emulate it at three different levels of hardware, including up to a Quadra 900 (which won't do Sys6, alas). I don't think Basilisk is emulating it cycle-for-cycle, plus you have the faster hard disk, so it seems pretty smokin. > Tried that, but it won't work with the ROM of my trusty Plus. Anybody > has a working ROM file? I have ROM files for the IIsi, PB100, Q650, Q900, and the Plus. I'm happy to share, since most of them were downloaded from various locations on the net anyway. (Only some of these ROMs work with Basilisk; the Plus ROM works with vMac.) >Anyone know how well MS Word X copes with large docs? Extremely well, I'm afraid to say. As do OpenOffice, MarinerWrite, and TextEdit. TeTeX is a bit pokey, unfortunately. Nisus Writer Express used to be unworkable, but v2.0 has gotten much much better; I would call it usable. Mellel v1.8 is right at the edge of usable vs. not usable, and it gets worse the longer the document gets. >It's hard to be serious about a market when nobody will take you seriously. >Part of the problem is Word: unless you are compatible with it, it makes >collaboration difficult. Part of the problem is the end user, who prefers a >feature rich word processor over one directed to their needs. That is so true. I'm on the Mellel mailing list; Mellel touts to be a big breakaway from Word, but the most common complaints come from users who are asking for Word features or more Word-like usability. -CAM __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
