Tom, Just some rambling thoughts ••••••••.
I am 72 years old having worked as a statistician for about two years (in 1954) and then a systems/analyst/(and occasional manager and Project lead) from 1956 to 1991. In 1958, I first programmed at the bit level on a 650-RAMAC (if memory serves) which programming experience then was interspersed with a lot of boolean logic in developing and implementing on the fly circuits for IBM Unit Record equipment. Since then I have had much experience in over 10 languages and numerous large scale and small scale systems and hardware. The reason I am mentioning this, is that I have seen and been actively present almost at the birth of the use of main frame computers in the business world and I have never failed to be amazed but not surprised at each sucessive development. My latest amazement is but a continuation of a science fiction story I read many years ago wherein multi-celled creatures had developed the communication to support a collective brain and when any indiviual developed some experience or some insight (it was science fiction), the collective whole was immediately privy to that new knowledge. Which leads to this thought: "In such a full sea are we now afloat, And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose out ventures."** It is not only this chat group that has a collective mind but also the actions of so-called bloggers who can discredit a self serving propagandist at CBS which bloggers have revealed yet another collective mind not necessarily dissassociated with this chat group but more probalby overlapping. ** Shakespeare is still appropriate: from Julius Caesar ACT IV, sc. iii line 222-224.
